Reflective Writing
Link to the Twine Story – https://ramonakreisa.itch.io/alissas-christmas
Before starting to develop my own Twine story, I watched other games. One of the points that stood out was how varied stories can be and how interesting they can be from different choices, end results and story paths. Twine is not only used for gaming purposes, it can also be used to tell a story whilst advertising product. If we take any advert as an example, each passage can be different choice; this is how I created my story. I applied as many choices as I could and made it interactive by creating a puzzle.
My main idea was to create something that the reader wouldn’t expect. I believe that is what makes the reader want to find out how it is going to end. I also made it Christmas themed, as in this period people are more likely to play my game.
One of the biggest challenges was using all of the twine tools as this was my first time. My aim was to create a story that would represent my interest; making it appealing to anyone which I succeeded in. The most successful detail was applying a guessing feature for the reader. I created different passages where the audience needs to guess based on the narrative. For example, when we look back at the story where Alissa picked up the letter, the audience had to guess which one is the most likely.
I also received positive feedback after presenting my idea. The response I got was that they didn’t expect the raising action of the story line to be a dream. It was a major plot twist which made it interacting.
Lastly, I could have focused on making it more visually appealing however I was focusing more on perfecting the narrative and learning how to apply the functions which was a slight mistake, however I can learn from this.
