Before starting to write my Wikipedia article, I saw this platform as an information place that had a bad reputation due to information not being true. However, after finding out more about it from our lecturer as well as Wikipedia professional editor we got to meet on workshop, I have realized how important this website is for community and most importantly for people who are not able to access education like I am.
One of the most amazing tools of this website is that I can take any article and make it more knowledgeable by adding information at any time. This provides anyone with always growing information platform. Another tool I found interesting is the audience analyzing. By typing in any topic, I can see what is most searched in particular days from particular audience. This is a good way to see which articles are most popular. As well as being able to contact everyone who`s username I know and ask any valuable information. If we look at the basic editing tools, I found them handy. I was able to add Wikipedia links to anything I wanted to provide more information. I was able to send the reader to an external link which I thought is very important if the audience doesn’t know where to find this specific information.
One feature I did struggle with was what type of facts I can use. Meaning, in this platform I can`t spread my own opinion. It has to be strictly fact based which meant I consistently had to remind myself to go back to the true information about Omoyemi Akerele.
Omoyemi Akerele was already featured on Wikipedia, just in poor quality of information. However, I am planning to also pick a Woman in Red, starting a whole new article about less featured women. I believe this is very important as I spread knowledge to the society who`s only access is Wikipedia.
